Guitar lessons everyone can enjoy!
Let me help you achieve your goals for learning to play the guitar
in a fun and easy way!
Before lessons begin, I offer a free 15 minute consultation to understand my student’s goals for learning to play the guitar. That way, I can create lessons that should help them get where they want to go. I also offer the opportunity to learn to play songs (PG rated) in the genre of the student’s choice as soon as they are ready.
I offer two curricula. The first one is a traditional approach which includes music theory (how to read music). The other one is for students who would prefer to learn to play “by ear”.
The first option is the Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book 1, 2nd ed. or intermediate guitar from the Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book 2, 2nd ed. by Will Schmid and Greg Koch. The CD’s are optional but they do provide enrichment and reinforcement.
About Book 1, an Amazon reviewer wrote, “…Students enjoy its easy-to-follow format that gives them a solid music education while letting them play songs right away. Book 1 provides beginning instruction including tuning, 1st position melody playing, C, G, G7, D7, and Em chords, rhythms through eighth notes, solos and ensembles and strumming. It features a chord chart and traditional songs.”
“Book 2 continues the instruction started in Book 1 and covers: Am, Dm, A, E, F and B7 chords; power chords; fingerstyle guitar; syncopations, dotted rhythms, and triplets; Carter style solos; bass runs; pentatonic scales; improvising; tablature; 92 great songs, riffs and examples; notes in first and second position; and more!” ~ Amazon book description
The second option is the “by ear” option, Intro to the Guitar for the Visually Impaired (2nd edition). Again, this is for students who prefer not to learn how to read music. Within that curriculum, the student can learn from computer downloads or from CD’s. There is no book.
Each lesson will start on the half-hour and end after 25 minutes. I charge $30/lesson or a family discount of $20 per sibling. I prefer Venmo for non-charter students.
I help guitar students learn what they want to know and do with the guitar. I am lavish with praise and encouragement and gentle with correction.
I have mastered intermediate guitar, beginning piano and beginning flute. For over 50 years I have played and sung at weddings, memorial services, nursing homes, hospitals and church services. I am currently developing my songwriting craft. I am a former home-school mom, and have given guitar lessons for 4 1/2 years.
“Elizabeth taught beginning guitar to my 13 year old son and was very encouraging… I would recommend Elizabeth to anyone as a fun and knowledgeable guitar teacher.”
“Elizabeth taught a beginning guitar class at our home-school co-op…My daughter loved every minute! We are amazed at her progress in such a short time, from never having played a guitar before. Elizabeth genuinely loves to share her knowledge and has a sincere interest in each student.”
